fight breed-specific legislation....

If you are owner of a dog,
especially one that belongs to a 'dangerous breed',
and you also have a small child,
please take note of this warning.

Don't leave your dog unattended with the child
under any circumstances.
Only a little moment was enough for the following to happen.

See the photo below ....

LOL! I read that website every day, that was hysterical. Dan said, "but that's a pit bull" and I said, no, it's an English bull terrier and they are renowned for being great with kids and good family dogs. Unfortunately they are one of the breeds used to create the pit bull breed and now they bear that stigma.

But they are sweet, sweet dogs and I just died when I saw this picture!

isn't he adorable! and Amber, you're right, he is an english bull terrier - but in all truth- pitties are WONDERFUL dogs if they're not destoryed by goddam stupid owners!

I walk pitties all the time at the Humane Society where I volunteer - and most of them are DARLINGS!! Sweet, affectionate, loving and gentle - and yes, almost without exception DOG aggressive- but by no means NOT all - and those that are were more or less encouraged to be!

Pit bulls and lot of people don't realize this- were bred do be DOG aggressive but PEOPLE- friendly - the handlers had to be able to deal with them even at their worst and it shows in their nature!

They have had a very BAD RAP and here in Ontario, they banned the breed. It has lead to thousands of unnecessary deaths and dogs languishing in humane socieities as they are legally not allowed to be adopted out.

The ones that come into the local poudns or animal services are immediately euthanized - no chances.

All becuase a handful of asshole owners have destroyed some dogs and labelled an entire breed with a bad brush.

I had to laugh at the pic, for it is common that the family dog takes a lot of loving abuse from the children of the household.

If people had any sense, they would treat animals well, thus getting the same in return.

This is priceless. We have three dogs and we fostered a Pit Bull for awhile until we found him a home. Brigs was sweet, loving and did get along with our other dogs. The problem we encountered was that our little hound mix kept attacking the Pit (even though the aggression was never returned.

Aunt Olive was correct, there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. I too would rather have dogs than kids (and I have both).

I have a real hate on for breed-specific legislation. Again, punishing animals for human foibles and ignorance. And all that will happen is that those same assholes will just go onto the next breed.

When I was young it was dobermans ... then rotties, for a whle now the pit bulls and my personal loves, of course, the shepherds have ALWAYS had a bad reputation. I have them WELL under control and yet people STILl cross the street and give me angry stares....
